Glorious Wedding Ceremony Light at Blessed Sacrament Seattle

I was in awe of the light at Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle. Beautiful soft beams of light coming in from the stained glass windows, perfectly illuminating anyone walking up the aisle or standing near the altar. It was a mid-day ceremony, with August’s summer light diffused into the church through stained glass.

Blake opted for a traditional, up the aisle first look, with Briana beaming as she was escorted by her parents. Catholic wedding ceremonies are generally a little longer, which gave plenty of opportunities for photos of the couple lit up by the stained glass light. With the ceremony over, there was a short round of group photos in front of the altar before everyone rushed to their cars to make it to The 101 Seattle for the wedding reception.

Party of the Summer at The 101 Seattle Wedding Reception

Despite being just four miles apart, it took over an hour to reach the reception venue with deadlocked Saturday traffic. It turns out Ed Sheeran was playing at Lumen field, just one block away from The 101 Seattle Wedding, located just off Pioneer Square.

I rushed into the wedding reception just as the party was kicking off. Guests mingled and took pictures in the photo booth as hoards of concert goers streamed past the large windows. As the concert crowd dwindled, speeches began, Blake’s dad memorably infusing his toast with his Texas drawl while wearing a large cowboy hat.

When the dancing started it raged. Dueling Pianos from Felix and Fingers provided the live music (while a good DJ is a treasure, there is something special about live music at weddings). Sometimes the alchemy is just right, and on this august night the dancing had everything: The bride and groom never leaving the dance floor—check. Conga line—check. That one random couple who are really good at swing dancing—check. Two hours of partying without a breath—check.

Two hours later and the crowd started to shuffle outside for the increasingly rare sparkler exit. Most of the PNW Wedding Venues outside the city no longer allow sparkler exits in the summer due to the risk of fire, but as the 101 is in downtown Seattle, it’s allowed.

As the couple ran out through the crowd of waving sparklers and off into the night, in the background you could just hear Ed Sheeran finishing up his set a few blocks away. The remaining guests headed off together, talk of an afterparty at a nearby bar, tuxedoed wedding guests merging with the exiting concert goers.
